Love Letters: The Patterson Theater

Like many generations before me, the bright red sign with their marquee lights, sticky theater floors and smell of buttery popcorn gives one thoughts of nostalgia and all the “warm and fuzzies.”

It was all so simple then. There were 3 movie selections every other week and a bucket of popcorn was $3. Afterwards, as a ritual, you had to go across the street for a Matthew’s pie (or two, or three).

It was the perfect date night with my mom and I am so lucky to have had the chance to experience this old Highlandtown tradition. Ask any Canton/ Highlandtown local who lived in the area in the 70’s and 80’s and I guarantee they will agree, hon.

With Love,

Sonya
