The firm congratulates Utku Akbulut, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Jilian Breeden, P.E., LEED AP, Tom Hyde, AIA, and Alan Bowman, AIA, LEED AP for being promoted to Associate Principal. The firm also congratulates Anthony Gill, AIA, CSI, CDT, LEED AP, and Jasmine Purnell for being promoted to Associate.
A leader for MCA in computer aided design and digital graphics imaging, Utku joined the firm in 2011. A talented designer, he is passionate about design excellence and his strong design skills are reflected on numerous projects, both inside and outside the United States. In over 25 years, Utku has worked in challenging positions within the profession on a wide range of project types, resulting in solid experience in all phases of design. Utku believes that a successful design relies not only on a strong understanding and response to the client’s needs but goes beyond to delivering spaces that exceed expectations and create environments where humans can thrive. He is a professionally registered architect in MD and DC, is a member of NCARB and is a LEED AP®. Utku graduated from Morgan State University with a Masters of Architecture.
Jilian Breeden is a licensed professional engineer that joined MCA in 2016. With 17 years of experience, she specializes in providing planning and programming support to federal clients to assist with their space planning, requirements development, and facility construction, renovation, and footprint-reduction initiatives. Jilian has a broad educational background, having graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and concentrations in Green Engineering and Business. This background, along with her wide-ranging experience and strong project management skills, allows her to successfully tackle a variety of planning project types. Jilian enjoys taking an active role in corporate growth and business development initiatives and is also being promoted to MCA’s Federal Sector Lead.
Alan Bowman joined MCA in 2000 and has served as Senior Project Manager in MCA’s Academic Studio. In 32 years of practice, he has managed many multi-year, multi-phased projects, constantly striving to provide the finest service and results for MCA’s clients. He has managed several LEED Gold and Silver accredited projects, as well as several projects that involved buildings on the National Historic Register or in National Historic Districts. He is a registered Architect in the State of Maryland and is a USGBC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP®). Alan graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Architecture.
Tom Hyde is an Associate Principal with MCA and serves as the sector lead for Science & Research markets; to foster working relationships and to leverage our firm’s expertise in design and planning as trusted advisor for our current and future clients. A licensed Architect for over 30 years Tom’s focus is to deliver excellent customer service in the delivery of his client’s projects in a timely and professional manner. He is an accomplished leader with solid progressive experience managing a wide range of project types with emphasis on Science & Research, Healthcare, and Academic market sectors. Managing all phases of the design and construction process, he is recognized as a collaborative leader with demonstrated success through building, leading, and coordinating multi-discipline project teams.
Anthony Gill joined MCA in 2015 bringing with him a wide variety of experience in construction management and architectural design. As the Studio head of MCA’s Historic + Adaptive Reuse studio, Anthony often researches the past to replicate tried-and-true methods of construction that have withstood the test of time. Within the firm, Anthony also serves as the Chair of the Education & Training Committee tasked with the implementing our award-winning mentorship programs and organizing continuing education presentations. This brings new ideas and construction techniques to the office. Anthony Gill is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, Chair of AIA Baltimore’s Practice Management Committee, and is a Baltimore City resident.
Shortly after graduating from Stevenson University in May 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration, Jasmine Purnell joined MCA and took on the role as Business Specialist. She quickly transitioned into our finance department where she currently focuses on financial responsibilities, reporting directly to our Treasurer, managing all the firm’s financial and accounting functions. As she completes her Masters of Business Administration at the University of Maryland, Jasmine continues to pursue professional development opportunities that align with the growing needs of her role at MCA.
