Baltimore, MD (February 18, 2019) – Brian Helfer Jr., an undergraduate in the Architecture and Environmental Design Program at Morgan State University and vice president of the school’s AIAS chapter, has received the AIA Baltimore Travel Scholarship to visit and study Brasilia, Brazil’s modernist capital. Brian had this to say about the study trip:
“The research project will focus on Oscar Niemeyer’s architectural works in the planned city of Brasilia. Brasilia was built from a blank slate during the modernist era making it a unique landscape and a great learning opportunity. The research will focus on the concept of “How Oscar Niemeyer’s buildings Touch the Ground” where his buildings will be studied and documented to find their underlying value. The final research project will be presented in October to the Morgan State University School of Architecture and Planning student body as well as the AIA Baltimore membership. Brian would like to thank AIA Baltimore and The Baltimore Architecture Foundation for providing him this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
