Doors Open Baltimore, the citywide festival of architecture and neighborhoods, is going all virtual in 2020. Instead of a single weekend of tours and open houses, the 2020 event will extend throughout the month of October. Every week will include a new theme and programs to virtually engage with Baltimore’s architecture and neighborhoods.

Doors Open Baltimore will begin on October 1 with a kick-off lecture by Aaron Henkin. Henkin will draw on his experience as producer and host of the award-winning WYPR program Out of the Blocks for his lecture. The program will be co-hosted with Baltimore Heritage.

Many more Doors Open Baltimore programs will be announced in the coming weeks and registration will open in September. Each program is free to the public. The weekly themes will be:

Week 1: African American Heritage and Civil Rights

Week 2: Civic Pride and Industry

Week 3: Arts and Culture

Week 4: Design Excellence Week

Week 5: Spiritual and Ritual

Attendees can expect a month’s worth of live virtual tours, presentations, workshops, and family activities.

Organized by the Baltimore Architecture Foundation (BAF), Doors Open Baltimore is the free citywide festival of architecture and neighborhoods that invites thousands of people to explore the city and make meaningful connections to the built environment.

BAF decided to make Doors Open Baltimore 2020 all virtual in response to COVID-19 and the health risks of hosting a large festival at this time. BAF hopes to return to an in-person Doors Open Baltimore weekend in 2021.
