Baltimore, MD (March 1, 2022) – AIA Baltimore has selected Lauren Bostic Hill, Assoc. AIA, as its next Executive Director, effective March 14, 2022. In that role, Hill will also serve as Executive Director for the Baltimore Architecture Foundation and provide management services for the Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
“We are thrilled to welcome Lauren as our next Executive Director,” said Laura Wheaton, AIA, 2022 AIA Baltimore President. “Her thoughtful leadership and broad experience in practice, engagement, and administration will be instrumental in realizing the potential at our new Center.” The Center for Architecture and Design, opened in October 2020, now serves as a high-profile, visible space to showcase the important role of architectural practice and design, and as a dynamic hub to engage professionals, students, and the public. In addition to AIA Baltimore, The Baltimore Architecture Foundation, and Maryland ASLA, it is also home to four local non-profit organizations: Baltimore Heritage, Charles Street Development Corporation, the Baltimore Chapter of National Organization of Minority Architects (Bmore NOMA), and Urban Land Institute: Baltimore Chapter.
Hill has been at Maryland Institute College of Art for over four years, most recently as Associate Director of International Student Services. Hill said of her new role, “I am honored to join AIA Baltimore, BAF, and Maryland ASLA as Executive Director. As the organizations celebrate significant anniversaries and milestones, it is the perfect time to create synergies between them. Baltimore has a rich history of engaged architecture and design professionals, and I return to this community with a renewed perspective on the profession. I am excited to work with members to support the needs of the architectural community and elevate the presence of the Center for Architecture and Design. The Center is well poised to serve as a space to engage the public. I look forward to creating new opportunities for professional growth and promoting the organizations as stewards of the built environment in the greater Baltimore community.”. Hill holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia, a Master of Architecture and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Arts in Intercultural Communication from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Hill previously served on the AIA Baltimore Board of Directors as an Associate Director, was a Mid-Atlantic Regional Associate Director, and a member of the AIA Board Diversity & Inclusion Council.
Hill was selected by a search committee chaired by 2022 AIA Baltimore Immediate Past-President Scott McGovern, AIA, with representatives from all three organizations she will now help lead. She succeeds Kathleen Lane, AIA, who departed after nearly a decade with the chapter to become the Managing Director for Sustainability and Resilience at AIA National.
Hill will assume her new role on March 14, 2022.

Baltimore Architecture Foundation

Through its tours, lectures, educational programs for adults and kids, exhibitions, research, and publications, the BAF demonstrates how ideas are manifested in the built environment and urban design of the city.

Founded in 1972, the Maryland Chapter of the ASLA is the professional association for landscape architects, representing more than 335 members within Maryland in 2019. Landscape architecture is a comprehensive discipline of land analysis, planning, design, management, preservation, and rehabilitation.
