Baltimore Architect, Randy M. Sovich, FAIA Elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows

Baltimore, MD (February 28, 2022) – Randy M Sovich, FAIA, of Baltimore-based RM Sovich Architecture, has been elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the institute’s highest membership honor.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) admits member-architects to its prestigious College of Fellows annually. Since 1952, AIA leaders have recognized a small group of members for “significant contributions to the architecture profession.” Three percent of AIA members have this distinction.

Sovich’s writing and publications advance the science and art of building from the platform of his socially-oriented practice, which creates nurturing places for disenfranchised populations. Some notable completed projects include:

  • The Highlandtown Healthy Living Center: The first Federally Qualified Community Health Center in the United States to receive LEED® Platinum Certification. The project is a model of public, private, and non-profits working together to create services for a disenfranchised population of Highlandtown and surrounding areas.
  • The award-winning Southeast Community Development Corporation Headquarters in Highlandtown: a teaching tool for homebuyers and local businesses providing a working model for adapting historic structures by integrating passive and active solar strategies, green roof systems, native planting materials, urban gardening, and rainwater harvesting.;
  • A Guide to Creating Home, Assisted Living Design Manual. The publication, funded with a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, was co-authored with Robert Jenkins and Candace [Baldwin] Robinson; and
  • T3XTURE, an international architectural journal, co-edited with Craig Purcell, AIA, and Lynda Burke, recently on exhibit in Rome and Florence, and currently in San Sebastien, in Spain.

This June, Sovich and 87 other new Fellows elevated in 2022 will be honored at an investiture ceremony at the AIA Conference on Architecture in Chicago.
