AIA Baltimore to Provide Management Services to Maryland ASLA

Baltimore, MD (June 27, 2019) – AIA Baltimore will now provide management services to the Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (Maryland ASLA). AIA Baltimore will be responsible for administrative services to fulfill the day-to-day operations of the Maryland ASLA chapter and its mission of promoting the profession of landscape architecture in Maryland through fellowship, advocacy, communications, and education.

“After many years of successful part-time professional management, our organization is excited to take a big step forward by collaborating with AIA Baltimore and leveraging their embedded experience with the management of professional organizations,” said Benjamin Boyd, ASLA, President-Elect for the Maryland ASLA. “Kathleen Lane and her team at AIA Baltimore will be taking on a greater role in the many operational processes of the chapter such as communications, program organization and financials. This will allow our Executive Committee and dedicated volunteers to focus on the task of improving the lives of our members, advocating for our profession, and growing our membership. As an added bonus, landscape architects will have an even greater opportunity to collaborate with architects and other design professionals that AIA Baltimore services and supports.”

Kathleen Lane, AIA, Executive Director of AIA Baltimore noted that “AIA Baltimore is very pleased to initiate this expanded relationship with ASLA Maryland. This will offer an outstanding opportunity to both organizations to amplify the voice of the design community and grow our organizations together. Our members will benefit from interdisciplinary dialogue, collaboration, and networking.”

AIA Baltimore brings a well-qualified team of professionals to expand and improve the services and scope of the Maryland ASLA. Founded in 1871, the AIA Baltimore is the third oldest AIA chapter, and with over 1,000 members, one of the largest in the country. Their staff also oversees the Baltimore Architecture Foundation (BAF), the public-facing nonprofit. The organizations are working to establish a Center for Architecture and Design in 2019. The Maryland ASLA is excited to play a part in future programs and the interaction of design and the city.
