President’s Letter: Welcome Kevin Miller, 2025 BAF President

It’s that time of year, when inboxes are inundated with “Happy 2025” messages; however, I hope this one hits a bit differently.

For the last two years, Nakita Reed and her team of directors tirelessly led the Baltimore Architecture Foundation (BAF) out of a pandemic with unwavering passion to keep the organization and all our programs afloat. As Nakita steps back to a past-president role (don’t worry, she’s still very involved and great), I, Kevin Miller, will be stepping into the presidency of the Baltimore Architecture Foundation. You may recognize me from emceeing events, or being a tour volunteer; but if you see me in public, feel free to stop me and introduce yourself!

I want to take a moment to reintroduce the organization: BAF is an architecture and design organization for the Baltimore community. Throughout its multi-decade history, it has worn many hats, put on many programs, spearheaded countless research efforts and worked to educate about the importance of architecture: past, present and future. But what does BAF look like in 2025? At our core, the Baltimore Architecture Foundation’s goal is to inspire curiosity and deepen appreciation for the built environment. We want to achieve this through engaging people and all Baltimore communities, discovering everything this city has to offer, and connecting people with the design+architecture resources that are available to them. I have hopes, dreams, and ideas on how to support and achieve our mission, but I want to hear from you: the community. What can we organize, create, or delve into that will be beneficial to you? We want your help in shaping our efforts and the future of this organization. If you want to share more than just your voice, we are always accepting of volunteers/directors! And if you have the means to support us monetarily, we would also greatly appreciate a one-time donation to support our efforts and make sure we can continue serving the community in the best way possible.

Don’t worry, we are not upending everything you know about BAF. Doors Open Baltimore, City Sand, Future Architect Resources, the Spring Lecture Series, and many of our legacy programs and research efforts will continue to flourish. But in the spirit of growth, change, and bettering this city I love so much, we want to strategically expand our reach and impact with your help.

I have a tendency to ramble, so I’m doing my best to keep this brief. But I do want to pause and just thank you personally. Our efforts mean nothing without your interest and engagement. I really look forward to 2025 Baltimore Architecture Foundation and how we can continue to grow together.

With love,

Kevin Miller
