Emerging Professionals Licensure and ARE Prep Kick-Off!

Guest speaker from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) will present on a range of licensure topics relevant to students, interns, supervisors, architects, and people in the architecture profession. The presentation will review the steps necessary to achieve licensure to become an architect and other programs to get the most out of your career in architecture. A representative from Maryland’s DLLR Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing department speaking on state-specific requirements for licensure.

 

Martin Smith, AIA, NCARB, LEED Green Associate

Assistant Vice President, Experience + Education

Martin Smith joined NCARB in 2009 when he was hired to develop and expand NCARB’s outreach efforts to universities and the profession. Today he has an important role in the development and oversight of the Architectural Experience Program® (AXP®), Architect Licensing Advisors Program, alternative programs for NCARB Certification, and additional programs within the Experience + Education directorate.

Smith has 10 years of architectural design and construction management experience. He has worked for architectural firms in New York City and New Canaan, CT. His projects varied from single and multi-family residential projects to commercial and university buildings, with a focus on adaptive re-use and historic preservation projects.

Smith holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University and is licensed to practice architecture in the state of New York. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, has achieved the qualification of LEED Green Associate, and holds the NCARB Certificate for national reciprocity.

 

Nicholas R. Respecki, AIA, NCARB

Manager, Examination Development

Nicholas Respecki is a Manager of Examination Development at NCARB. In this position, he works primarily on development of the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®).

Prior to joining NCARB, Respecki worked as an architect and designer for multiple firms in Washington, DC. He has experience in all phases of design and construction, with work primarily focused on large scale university, sports, healthcare, and cultural projects.

Respecki holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Architecture degree from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. He is licensed to practice architecture in the District of Columbia, is a member of the American Institute of Architects, and holds the NCARB Certificate for national reciprocity.

Presented by the AIA Baltimore Emerging Professionals Committee and NCARB. This program will provide an overview of the AIA Baltimore EPs and the committee’s annual ARE Prep course and study program, as well as study resources/materials.
