Baltimore, MD (February 22, 2016) – Mueller Associates, an award-winning mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering firm, is celebrating its 50^th anniversary in 2016. Established in Baltimore in 1966, the firm has become nationally known for its portfolio of projects requiring complex building system requirements, including museums, special collection libraries and archives, performing arts centers, laboratories, advanced teaching environments, and historic structures.
Mueller Associates has completed more than 100 projects for the Smithsonian Institution, a client since 1978, and continues to support the museum today with renovation design services underway for the National Air and Space Museum and the National Zoological Park. The firm has completed several projects for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Lyric Opera House, and major colleges and universities throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Mueller has also completed many projects at historic sites such as Mount Vernon, Monticello, the White House, and the Washington National Cathedral. For Northrop Grumman, a client for the past 40 years, the firm has completed nearly 1,000 projects. Mueller’s client roster also includes many of the nation’s most esteemed architectural firms.
The firm employs a staff of more than 40 engineers, designers, and administrative personnel under the direction of President Robert Marino, PE, LEED AP. Marino, who joined the firm in 1985, has been recognized as a Penn State University Architectural Engineering Centennial Fellow. Under his leadership, Mueller operates one of the profession’s most technologically advanced engineering studios, with state-of-the-art design software systems and a robust staff training program. The firm, which has been based in Baltimore throughout its history, recently moved to a spacious studio at Airport Square in Linthicum, with expansive presentation and training facilities as well as collaborative workspace.
In addition to a culture that promotes innovation and technical problem-solving, Mueller maintains high staff retention and minimal turnover. Nearly one-third of the firm’s employees have been with Mueller for more than 20 years. Engineer Paul P. Czajkowski, PE, has been with the firm for 35 years. Seven employees, including Senior Vice President Kenneth Rock, PE, LEED AP, and Robert Marino, have been with the firm for 30 years; and five additional employees have been with the firm 20 years or more.
In addition to the National Air and Space Museum and National Zoological Park renovation projects, Mueller is currently working on upgrades to George Washington University’s Corcoran School of the Arts & Design in Washington, D.C; the expansion of the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg; the new Duke University Arts Center in Durham, N.C.; the Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center at the University of Maryland in College Park; and the Bowie State University Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics & Nursing, also in Maryland. The firm recently completed the renovation of the historic Baltimore Museum of Art, the University of Baltimore’s national award-winning Angelos School of Law, and the acclaimed University of Maryland, Baltimore County Performing Arts and Humanities Building.
