Baltimore, MD (July 24, 2018) – GWWO is pleased to announce that Chris Elcock, AIA, IIDA, LEED AP and Sharon Day, AIA, LEED AP BD+C have been promoted to Associate Principal and Senior Associate, respectively.
Chris Elcock, one of the firm’s team leaders, joined GWWO in 1997 and became a member of the management team in 2003. Chris has been with GWWO for over 20 years and has built his career with a focus on cultural projects with an emphasis on performing arts and interpretive centers as well as education projects in the higher education and K-12 markets. As a team leader he is responsible for the management and oversight of a group of architects undertaking a range of projects within his focus of expertise. He has overseen and been involved with the creation of a new theater within the Ocean City Convention Center, new Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center, new music building and auditorium at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, the new Stockton Education Center for Morven Museum and Gardens, and the modernization of Wheaton Woods and Benfield Elementary Schools.
As a member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), Chris brings his specialized knowledge of interiors to the projects his team is focused on. Chris is also an appointed member of the Maryland Coast Smart Council which has set new guidelines for state-funded buildings in locations that are under threat of sea level rise. Finally, he serves as a pre-design instructor for the AIA Baltimore Chapter’s Achieving Registration Together program that helps young architects pass their professional exams. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Howard University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of the West Indies.
Sharon Day joined GWWO in 2006 and was named to the management team in 2012.  She serves as a Construction Administration Specialist where she focuses on the construction documents and construction administration phases for a variety of project types, with a particular focus on Maryland public school and higher education facilities.  Projects she has seen to fruition have included the new Severna Park High School, Dundalk & Sollers Point High School Complex, and Mathematics & Science Hall addition and renovation at the Community College of Baltimore County.
Sharon has been an active member with the AIA Baltimore Chapter since 2003, including serving as Board President last year. She was part of the Design Awards and Emerging Professionals committees for many years and currently is Board liaison to the Practice Management Committee and enjoys working with the Emerging Professionals and Future Architects Resource Committees through mentorship and career days. Sharon holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Cincinnati.
